I really enjoyed this two hours walking tour during my recent trip to New York. As the title suggests, it consisted of a tour through Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown.
The group I was with was fairly large, so when we checked in, there were two guides there to divide the us in order to make our numbers smaller and the tour more personal.
The best way to explore these neighborhoods is to walk through each and everyone of them! Doing this really allowed us to see the stores and restaurants in each area and see the differences in environment when you walk into a new neighborhood. I couldn’t believe how different things were from one area to the next.
Our first stop was Soho, one of the trendiest and classy neighborhoods in Manhattan. It had such beautiful architecture and a lot of nice, popular stores, as well as an abundance of restaurants and places to eat.
I loved it! From the old fashioned high rise buildings with stores at the bottom, to the people going on with their day, the vibe in this suburb is that of people who’ve made it in life. Exciting!
Our next stop was Little Italy, which I adored. The history of this place is great, and all the restaurants seem wonderful and I just bet produce great food and wine. That day the San Genero Festival was going on and it was full of people and the fantastic smells of food.
Such an amazing walk through these areas would be hard to do without the local knowledge that our guide provided. I felt I wanted to go back for more later, and in fact I did, returning to Little Italy for what was the best pizza I had ever eaten.
The last part of the tour was Chinatown, where it literally feels like you are in China; the streets crowded with Chinese people, and there are Chinese signs everywhere.
There is so much of their culture on display, as well as a wide variety of smells taking over the area. We walked through the entirety of Chinatown and never once felt unsafe. You can buy fruit, vegetables. treats, and so much more from the many vendors and shops.
As much as I loved everything I saw, it took an excellent tour guide like we were provided with to pull it all together. He had a great personality and explained everything to us so that we almost felt like locals. I appreciated this because New York can be very intimidating to new visitors like myself.
Overall, the tour was a great value, allowing us to visit and learn about New York’s Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown in just two hours. I enjoyed spending time with a lot of people, learning about architecture, history and culture. If you have the right shoes for the job, I would recommend taking a walking tour when you visit this amazing city.
