No trip to Chicago is complete without a visit to the top of Willis Tower, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and The Ledge at Skydeck Chicago!
I was so excited when I found out I would be visiting Chicago for the first time and eagerly set about making a list of things I wanted to do while there.. The first thing I knew I wanted to do was visit the Willis Tower. Of course eating a Chicago dog and Chicago style pizza were high on my list too!
I arrived to Willis Tower with my best friend and business partner Marbelis at around 3:00 PM on a Saturday. There were quite a few people like me there,all excited to take in the views, but everything was very organized. It didn’t take long to see what all the fuss is about. I have to say that this is easily the most amazing view in the city. Seriously, you can see all the way to Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin on a clear day!
Once you enter, you go through a mini museum, which includes a movie that tells you all about the construction of this amazing building, and its equally interesting history. Once you have taken that all in, you go up in a very fast elevator that counts the floors and height you are at and compares them to those of other world famous places.
Of course reaching the top is where the real fun begins, and it surely did not disappoint! You can walk all around and look out the sides, seeing for what seems like forever. There is a small gift shop up top, as well as another at the bottom to help you commemorate your visit. There are a total of four Skydecks on the 103rd floor, giving you fantastic views in all directions.
They also have these enormous windows on all four sides of the building. They are glass enclosed decks that people can enter to see straight down to the ground below. There are incredible opportunities to take photos of all of Chicago and even beyond that! After entering the Skydeck, you need to wait in another line to get to the glass decks, but it is completely worth it, and the staff really helps move you along!
They take a picture for you, and then you are free to take your own pictures for up to 60 seconds (90 seconds for a group of 3 or more). Because of the demand for the deck view, they must keep the people to this time limit.
This place is one of Chicago’s most popular attractions. Nearly 2 million people make their way each year, and it’s easy to see why. Chicago is one of the most famous and beautiful cities in the world, and there is absolutely no place better to take it all in than from the top of Willis Tower.
It was a wonderful experience, and we left so happy with our cool pictures and souvenirs. This was truly something the both of us will remember for a lifetime.
If you go to Chicago, make sure to visit to visit the Willis Tower. Also they have different cool activities that they offer, host private events, proposals, and weddings, have dining in the sky, etc. Basically there is something for everyone who has come to see the “Windy City!”
