In a town like Las Vegas, it is hard to come up with a new attraction that stands out above the rest. However, at 550 ft. tall, that is exactly what the High Roller does, making it the largest observation wheel in the world.
We decided to take a ride on the giant wheel during the day, and at $24.95, it is a pretty good deal (It’s just $34.95 at night). We had not actually visited the Linq district yet, so we were surprised when we arrived early and saw how beautiful the entire area was. Lots of restaurants and shops were in the area, and we took a moment for a little stroll to soak it all in. We can’t wait to come back soon to grab a bite and enjoy some of the entertainment.
Going to the ticket counter, we noticed a theme we would enjoy throughout the experience. They have perhaps the friendliest staff you will find anywhere in Las Vegas. From the person who opened the doors, to the person giving us the tickets, to the ladies assisting us on and off the ride, everyone here has a big smile and eagerness to help. Maybe it was because the weather was so perfect, but it is clear that customer service is a huge point of emphasis.
I was a little worried as we went to board our 44,000 lb. pod. I am not a fan of heights, but unlike a ferris wheel, this is completely enclosed and moves at a slow, steady pace. So I stepped aboard and prepared for what would obviously be the best look at one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The pods never stop, so depending on how many people are in line, the size of your group may vary. We only had a few people in with us, and the wheel slowly rose into the sky. As we began, a video played, telling us a little bit about the High Roller, along with other interesting facts. The pods are very sturdy and move at a nice and even pace, making it easy to feel comfortable. Even for those who are leery of heights, it gives you no reason to be frightened.
As our pod lifted, the view became better and better. You could see everything! From Caesar’s Palace across the street, to the airport behind us, you got an amazing view of the entire city. We walked from side to side in the pod enjoying the spectacular view, taking as many pictures as we could. It was even better than I had imagined. It is so awesome seeing our city from a different perspective than we see it every day. When you are in the air like this, you can see how amazing Las Vegas truly is.
Finally, we had reached the 550 foot pinnacle of the ride. We took a photo to commemorate the occasion and looked down at the top of the Bellagio and other strip properties. It took us 15 minutes to make it this high, and it would take 15 more to get back to the bottom. As we enjoyed the view, we wondered how much fun it would be to come back and check it out at night. Nothing beats a view of the strip when the lights are on!
The wheel itself has over 2000 LED lights that are on from dusk until early morning. They change colors frequently making the High Roller one of the most beautiful sites on the strip. Each pod can hold as many as 40 people, and they even take group reservations. How much fun would it be to get together with a large group and take it all in together?
Sadly, our ride came to an end. We stepped off our pod knowing that it would be just a matter of time before we came back to do it all once more. We made our way out of the building, but not before a stop in the gift shop to pick up a souvenir to commemorate the ride.
For tourists and locals alike, the High Roller is definitely a must-do attraction. It can be enjoyed by anybody of any age group. Whether you are a family, on a date, or alone, it is a great time. We would like to thank the people at the High Roller for allowing us to come out and enjoy the experience. And a special thanks also goes out to the friendliest staff in Las Vegas. Employees can ruin what could be an otherwise fun experience with their attitudes, or make a great time even better. And that’s what they did for us! We can’t wait to do it all again.
