We wanted to take a short trip out of Las Vegas last week, and decided on Lake Arrowhead. I had never been there, but heard that it was a cute little place with many small stores for shopping and great restaurants. We arrived on Thursday and looked around, finding it to be exactly as described. However, since it is a lake after all, you can’t just see it by foot or in a car. You actually have to go out onto the water!
Lake Arrowhead is private, so for visitors like me, you only have one real option and that’s to take a tour on the Arrowhead Queen. Fortunately, that is a perfect option to give you a perfect view of the lake, as well as to learn a lot about its history. So we scheduled a tour for Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
We arrived at the dock along with the other passengers a few minutes early. There, we were greeted by Shaun who would be serving as our captain. The first thing you notice about Shaun is his age. He said he was just 23, but beyond a youthful looking face, he had a nice confidence and friendliness that put everyone in the mood for a great tour. He spoke to us all for a few minutes until it was time to board. Once 11 o’clock came, we climbed on and began the trip!
The boat is not too small and not too big making it just the perfect size for a tourist like us. There were probably around 25 people on the boat with us, but it can probably fit 50 on a busy day. We also had a cute dog who was perfectly well behaved going along with another family. It has windows all the way around it, giving everyone a perfect view of the beautiful lake.
As we got going, Shaun started to point out things we were passing. Many celebrities live or have lived there, and he would show us which houses they were. He also would talk about the different features of the lake, as well as the unique rules and regulations that govern it. Since it is private, only certain people have access to it. His knowledge was really incredible, he even knew that one of the houses had a 980 square foot bathroom! A nice touch is that while we are cruising along, he allows some of the kids to come up and take a turn steering the boat. They have a lot of fun putting on a captain’s hat and pretending the are i charge. Of course he is right there next to them in case something were to happen.
The entire trip lasts just under an hour. It really is the best way to view the lake and is a lot of fun. Shaun made it very interactive and you could tell that all the other people enjoyed it as well. I was so glad we decided to take the tour as it gave us a better understanding of this beautiful place we were visiting.
The boat runs every hour on the weekends between 11-6 pm, and at the following times during the week: 11, 1230, 2, 330, & 5. You can buy tickets at Leroy’s which is a store located right off the dock. Prices are 17.00 each, and they do offer a discount for seniors and kids. I am not sure how much the dog had to pay though!
I would like to thank the people at Lake Arrowhead Queen, and especially Shaun, for showing us a really good time. I appreciate it when companies like this value that their customers are on vacation and do their best to make for an enjoyable experience.
