The Volkswagen Beetle: It’s not just a chick car anymore

The Beetle was the very first car that Volkswagen ever made.  It has undergone some changes throughout the years, and when it was relaunched in 1998, it was labeled by many as a “girly” car.  The sales numbers certainly reflected that as females were far more likely to purchase the Beetle.

In 2012, they changed the look, making it more attractive to both sexes.  I loved the red convertible that I got to drive.  It was sporty and cute at the same time, making for a great experience for me, and I am sure anyone else who decides to give it a try.

We took the car for several hours on a drive throughout Henderson, Boulder City, and all the way up to the Hoover Dam area.  It was a blast, and with the top down, I felt like I was ten years younger!

It also has probably the best stock radio I have ever heard in a car.  Nothing beats jamming to great music while cruising down the highway!

As for the way it drives, I was pleasantly surprised.  It doesn’t have a ton of power, but has more than enough to get by.  But what really impressed me was the handling.  The steering wheel was very comfortable in my hands, and the car reacted perfectly to everything I asked it to do.

The interior is about what you would expect from a Volkswagen.  It had red trim to match the exterior, and the leather seats were attractive and fairly comfortable.  It even has a push button ignition.  The top can be opened and closed with just the push of a button as well.

We brought the car back to the dealer and talked to the nice people at the Findlay Volkswagen in Henderson a little more.  They told us all about the changes that had been made to the car in an effort to make it more appealing to everyone.  And I must say, I think they nailed it!

We grabbed ourselves a Volkswagen hat and t-shirt and left the dealership, sure we would be seeing them again when it comes time to be looking for our next car.

I know the next time I am car shopping, this will be on my short list. I am a sucker for a cute car, and to find one that also is so well made is perfect.  The last thing I want is a car that will break down every other week.  Cruising around with the top down, my sunglasses down and my little dog next to me in the Las Vegas sun sounds like a great time to me!
